San Onofre is a historical surf break with more than waves
and a very nice beach, offers toilet, shower and fireplace to BBQ. The waves
are perfect for long boards (oopsies, sorry short boards!!!!!!) because they
are long and easy and I recommend to use Booties for the many rocks, above all
during low tide. All this elements mix together make San Onofre a really
special place!!!!
For anyone that is interested, San Onofre is located south of San Clemente, on I-5, exit Basilone Road, halfway between San Diego and LA (approximately 60 miles).

In my opinion, the only two things that are important to
know are:
- San Onofre is a national park and to go inside with your car you need pay
- Overlooking the beach you will see the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) which doesn’t match the incredible view that this location has to offer.

You are totally right, the waves are pretty smooth out there. I also highly recomend you to surf in Cardiff Reef. The view is great, nice beach, nice camping. Nice waves.
ReplyDeleteThe only problem is the water run off after a rainstorm. AVOID IT after one. I've gotten so sick as well as other surfing buddies after rainstorms at this spot. What is on the streets of Cardiff and elsewhere soon ends up in the water.
On the other hand,It is a great beach. Lots of tiny rocks before the sand so beware and being flip flops. It's popular and parking can be really hard. They ticket and it's expensive. If you can get past all that then have a terrific time!
